THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

ONE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES BEST THRILLERS OF 2020

“I loved this book. It gave me the same waves of happiness I get from curling up with a classic Christie...The alternating points of view keep you guessing, and guessing wrong.” — Alex Michaelides, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient

"Evok[es] the great Agatha Christie classics…Pay close attention to seemingly throwaway details about the characters’ pasts. They are all clues.” -- New York Times Book Review

A wedding celebration turns dark and deadly in this deliciously wicked and atmospheric thriller reminiscent of Agatha Christie from the New York Times bestselling author of The Hunting Party.

The bride – The plus one – The best man – The wedding planner  – The bridesmaid – The body

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.

And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

Not so good

Nice description of the area.

KrissyBirge

Plot twist

Interesting multiple perspectives.

Christy0603

Entertaining

Easy read, classic whodunit

Audrakaren2

Loved

Loved the twists at the end

babygirl21925

Predictable, contrived, elementary

Any twists you think are coming, are. It was fine for a pool read, I guess.

It was okay but pretty predictable.

WOW

It has been so long since I found me on the edge of my seat for a book! I loved every single twist and turn.

rompa. rume

Predictable storyline, predictable characters.

A lot of unlikeable characters. Beach read at best.

Janehowze

Fun read!

Liked the book. Kept me guessing!

The Copper Cactus

Slow start, gripping end

This certainly didn’t read in the way I expected going in, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I think the chapters being set up as characters perspective’s is an incredible writing skill, but I also found it frustrating at times because every single character change left me feeling like it was non-stop loose ends for 3/4 of the book. The last 100 pages were gripping, but the ending left me wanting more.

Wanda_growing in Christ

New Fan!

This is my first time reading this author’s work and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciate the fact that she gives enough details about each character to support your understanding of their attitudes and emotions, as well as their relevance as the story unfolds. I look forward to more from this author.

Fabulous

Great book. The ending could’ve been written better - it was very flat.

AuntJannie

Good, not great

Maybe I expected too much with all the five star reviews. The first half was a bit slow and, overall, the plot was a little too clever — too many coincidences where several characters had a shared past but didn’t know it. But still a good read.

lakesidelex

Couldn’t put it down

Started and finished this book in under 24 hours. Such a page turner with twists in just about every chapter!

TaylorAce2012

Far fetched snooze

Everyone has a motive...that you won’t find out about until the last 10th of the book. At which point, you won’t care. No one person could be as singularly evil and as coincidentally responsible for EVERY character’s formative traumatic life experience (unbeknownst to them). It’s just not believable. And not even in a fun way. As a lover of murder mysteries, hard pass.

grabber2

Good read

Slow to start but halfway through it picks up. Good ending!

Disappointing

Saw so many rave reviews about this book. Read it in less than an hour because of skimming through so many of the characters point of view. Needless to say, very disappointed.

Okay

Well it did keep me hooked for sure,I only have a few hours to read each day and managed to have this book read in three days,I love page turners! It is however an unlikely storyline and a bit rushed. I love that I could actually imagine what the author describes almost as if your seeing it yourself. I would recommend this book but it’s definitely not a favorite.

Lsumike4

Great book - spoilers ahead

Aoife is pronounced “ee-fuh”. That’s the most interesting mystery in this book.

Conan's Friend

It’s “Conor McGregor” not “Connor MacGregor”

I’m not sure how to write to the editor but the Apple book edition has a misspelling of Conor McGregor’s name. Just thought I would bring it to someone’s attention if someone hasn’t already.

Twists and turns

This book moves back and forth as it tells the story through the perspective of various characters over the course of 2 days. The story builds to an unlikely conclusion keeping the reader captivated as each character develops. An interesting writing style and good read!

Skybrooklex

Good but...

I finished this book in a day. It’s a page-turner to be sure. The style and different perspectives worked well. My only problem is the ending. Everything else was paced so perfectly until the ending which was rushed to the point of confusion. I kept scrolling over thinking there had to be more, but unfortunately there’s wasn’t. I do love endings that don’t tie everything up in a nice bow and this certainly fits that bill. However, after all the build up the ending felt flat and mostly unresolved.

The book was great, but the ending was terrible. Absolutely no closure. To have so many point of views through out the book and then none of them tie together is so disappointing. It’s like, putting puzzle pieces together into their spots and then never connecting them.

I think the chapters being set up as characters perspective’s is an incredible writing skill, but I also found it frustrating at times because every single character change left me feeling like it was non-stop loose ends for 3/4 of the book. The last 100 pages were gripping, but the ending left me wanting more.

New Fan!

This is my first time reading this author’s work and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciate the fact that she gives enough details about each character to support your understanding of their attitudes and emotions, as well as their relevance as the story unfolds. I look forward to more from this author.

Great book. The ending could’ve been written better - it was very flat.

Good, not great

Maybe I expected too much with all the five star reviews. The first half was a bit slow and, overall, the plot was a little too clever — too many coincidences where several characters had a shared past but didn’t know it. But still a good read.

Twists and turns

This book moves back and forth as it tells the story through the perspective of various characters over the course of 2 days. The story builds to an unlikely conclusion keeping the reader captivated as each character develops. An interesting writing style and good read!

A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK

Saw so many rave reviews about this book. Read it in less than an hour because of skimming through so many of the characters point of view. Needless to say, very disappointed.

Okay

Well it did keep me hooked for sure,I only have a few hours to read each day and managed to have this book read in three days,I love page turners! It is however an unlikely storyline and a bit rushed. I love that I could actually imagine what the author describes almost as if your seeing it yourself. I would recommend this book but it’s definitely not a favorite.

A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK

The Copper Cactus

Slow start, gripping end

This certainly didn’t read in the way I expected going in, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I think the chapters being set up as characters perspective’s is an incredible writing skill, but I also found it frustrating at times because every single character change left me feeling like it was non-stop loose ends for 3/4 of the book. The last 100 pages were gripping, but the ending left me wanting more.

No closure

The book was great, but the ending was terrible. Absolutely no closure. To have so many point of views through out the book and then none of them tie together is so disappointing. It’s like, putting puzzle pieces together into their spots and then never connecting them.

I like reading books with bad review - they are always the best ones! This kept me captivated throughout the entire book. Plot twists had me actually reading with my mouth hanging open. The ending was NOT expected at all. Great read.

The Copper Cactus

Slow start, gripping end

This certainly didn’t read in the way I expected going in, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I think the chapters being set up as characters perspective’s is an incredible writing skill, but I also found it frustrating at times because every single character change left me feeling like it was non-stop loose ends for 3/4 of the book. The last 100 pages were gripping, but the ending left me wanting more.

New Fan!

This is my first time reading this author’s work and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciate the fact that she gives enough details about each character to support your understanding of their attitudes and emotions, as well as their relevance as the story unfolds. I look forward to more from this author.

Good, not great

Maybe I expected too much with all the five star reviews. The first half was a bit slow and, overall, the plot was a little too clever — too many coincidences where several characters had a shared past but didn’t know it. But still a good read.

Great book. The ending could’ve been written better - it was very flat.

Good, not great

Maybe I expected too much with all the five star reviews. The first half was a bit slow and, overall, the plot was a little too clever — too many coincidences where several characters had a shared past but didn’t know it. But still a good read.

Fabulous

A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK

Slow start, gripping end

This certainly didn’t read in the way I expected going in, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I think the chapters being set up as characters perspective’s is an incredible writing skill, but I also found it frustrating at times because every single character change left me feeling like it was non-stop loose ends for 3/4 of the book. The last 100 pages were gripping, but the ending left me wanting more.

I don’t believe this book to be all the hype everyone claims it to be. I could guess what could happen mid-way through the book.

Tlanden

Disappointing

Saw so many rave reviews about this book. Read it in less than an hour because of skimming through so many of the characters point of view. Needless to say, very disappointed.

ravenclawmom

Great read

Totally unrealistic but really enjoyable and lots of coincidences that could never happen IRL tied up neatly. Beautiful setting, well developed characters, good dialogue and well paced plot. Recommend!

No closure

The book was great, but the ending was terrible. Absolutely no closure. To have so many point of views through out the book and then none of them tie together is so disappointing. It’s like, putting puzzle pieces together into their spots and then never connecting them.

Couldn’t put it down

I like reading books with bad review - they are always the best ones! This kept me captivated throughout the entire book. Plot twists had me actually reading with my mouth hanging open. The ending was NOT expected at all. Great read.

A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK

I like reading books with bad review - they are always the best ones! This kept me captivated throughout the entire book. Plot twists had me actually reading with my mouth hanging open. The ending was NOT expected at all. Great read.

Plot twist

Interesting multiple perspectives.

Entertaining

It has been so long since I found me on the edge of my seat for a book! I loved every single twist and turn.

Predictable storyline, predictable characters.

A lot of unlikeable characters. Beach read at best.

Aoife is pronounced “ee-fuh”. That’s the most interesting mystery in this book.

Conan's Friend
